The White Cliffs of Dover

The town of Dover is a small, but important port in England. The white cliffs of Dover are cliffs that form part of the British coastline facing France.

Dover Castle sits on top of the cliffs.

The Strait of Dover is the narrowest part of the English Channel and this is where people swim across the channel, which is about 20 miles. There have been about 1,000 crossings.

The cliffs are white because they are made of chalk (calcium carbonate).

On a clear day you can see across the channel to France's coast line.
