We joined a half-million other people along the Thames to ring in the New Year in London. Braving sub-zero temperatures (° C that is), this was said to be the coldest New Year's since the mid-1990s. Brrrr...

We rung in the New Year across from the London Eye on the Victoria Embankment when Big Ben struck midnight.

Victoria Embankment.

The fireworks are visible from from most of central London, but a good rule of thumb is if you can see the London Eye you can see the fireworks.

The London Eye...

...in every color.

Images were projected onto the Shell Building next to the London Eye.

Oooo...

...ahhh...

When Big Ben struck midnight fireworks were launched from the Eye.

An hour-long fireworks displayed was crammed into 10 minutes!

The budget for the fireworks was £1.6 million.

Happy 2009!
